Recently, I listened to "Hyperfocus" by Chris Bailey.

Overall, this is one of the best productivity books I've listened to this year due to its simplicity, balanced view and actionable tips.

The book explains its concept of Hyperfocus as a way of deliberately focusing on specific areas for a given amount of time.

The key messages are that a clear deliberate intention on a task can lead to increased productivity over a shorter time compared to a longer period of time with reduced focus.

The author also explains how it's important to be both productive and creative and how a balance of hyperfocus (clear deliberate intention) and scatter focus (letting your mind wander freely) are crucial.

Here are a list of points/moments that stuck with me during my listen:

-Quadrant (attractive vs unattractive and productive vs unproductive)

-Habits vs intention

-3 things to achieve by the end of the day (very clear measure and focus on how you relate to the goal)

-Distractions are easier to deal with before they become an issue

-Pay attention to how much you instinctively reach for your phone

-Make a distractions list (internal vs external) (helps you refocus)

-How often do you deliberately choose what to focus on

-Learn when your eyes begin to slow

-We actually have very little control of our focus

-Choosing a focus and sustaining it: we are what we pay attention to

-Purposeful tasks vary between every one and our goals

-We are not very good at multitasking conscience tasks

-Try not to judge yourself too much when you realise you're wondering

-Intention Overload occurs when you keep thinking about too many things e.g. taking work problems home

-Hyperfocus - choosing smaller things to focus on to be more driven to them

-Choose Object

-Eliminate distractions

-focus on object

-return to focus when wandering

-More likely to catch yourself wondering if you reward yourself for this

-Even a few minutes of mindfulness and meditation a day can improve your focus ability

-Cannot plan for future if too overwhelmed on present

-Scatter focus is important too (for creativity and planning)

-Thoughts can become more interesting and useful than external environment

-Taking more breaks can help you achieve much much more in scatter focus and recharging ability to hyperfocus

-Must enjoy balance of content consumed

-Choose some valuable things to add to your life (skills, books and knowledge) for each waste you remove

-Challenge yourself beyond your skillset and step outside your comfort zone

-Think about what you're consuming while you're reading/watching it

-Becoming happier can help improve your focus

-Schedule tasks according to your cycles of productivity and creativity
